Cameri Theater Putting Up Play By Dead PFLP Terrorist

Tel Aviv's Cameri Theater is completing rehearsals for a play that was written by Ghassan Kanfani, the former spokesman of the PFLP terror group, who was killed in a daring IDF raid in Beirut in 1972. Kanfani was the spokesman for the PFLP in the period which saw the organization's first plane hijackings, as well as the 1972 massacre in Lod Airport.

The operation in which Kanfani was killed was carried out by a joint force of the Sayeret Matkal (General Staff Commando), Naval Commando and paratroopers. Two Sayeret Matkal fighters were killed in the operation. The force managed to set off an explosion which tore down part of a building the terrorists were using, burying dozens of terrorists beneath the ruins.

A group of angry citizens organized and called for a boycott of the play and the theater. They demanded that the head of the Cameri's Board of Directors, Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Chuldai, give instructions to cancel the play. The Cameri Theater refused to comment on the matter, other than to tell journalists that "we will not respond unless you have read the play or seen one hour of a rehearsal."
