Fayyad Takes on Workers' Union

(IsraelNN.com) Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad is squaring off with PA civil service workers' union chief Jamil Shehadeh over the issue of annual wage hikes, with Fayyad refusing to shell out and the union refusing to work if he doesn't.
The union is threatening to strike if the US-backed government of Fayyad and PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas does not raise salaries. Fayyad says he will dock workers for every day of the strike, noting there has been a 27 percent wage increase each year for the past three years.
