Yisrael Beitenu Knesset Member David Rotem repeated a call by his party for a law to require lawmakers and new immigrants to pledge allegiance to the State of Israel in light of Israeli Arab Knesset Member Ahmed Tibi's visit to an enemy nation Wednesday night.
"Tibi again tramples on Israeli law and ignores his responsibility to be a loyal citizen of our country," said Rotem on Thursday. "This event only supports thoughts of proposing a law to require a formal statement of allegiance to the state in order to receive citizenship."
The Israeli Arab MK stopped in Beirut on his way from Yemen, where he met with President Ali Abdullah Saleh, to Jordan, where he will meet with King Abdullah II. It is not known whether he met with anyone in Beirut and if so, with whom. Lebanon is an enemy nation.
