Elderly residents of Jerusalem who cannot afford eyeglasses will soon be able to purchase glasses for a symbolic payment of 20 shekels.  The project will be organized and funded by the “Mishkan HaRaya” organization and the city of Jerusalem.

The city recently began offering free eye exams to schoolchildren in addition to the free eye exams offered to children in nursery school.  Experts explained that schoolchildren in particular can be negatively affected by vision problems, which can prevent them from learning to read and from otherwise succeeding in their studies.  The “Mishkan HaRaya” group provides eyeglasses to schoolchildren who meet the group’s criteria, for a small symbolic payment.
