The Ministry of National Infrastructures has granted National Biodiesel the first license to operate a biodiesel supply company alongside Israel's other fuel suppliers, the Globes financial news service reports.

The company will be allowed to market fuel to private and corporate customers after implementation of the government authorization of the mixing of diesel fuel with 5% biodiesel.

The company makes biodiesel from both vegetable oils and animal fat - both fresh and used. A plant in Kibbutz Karmia in the Negev can produce 1,000 tons of biodiesel a month. The plant can be expanded to produce ten times that amount within the year if the project is successful.
