Analysis: Rice's Plans Running Out of Steam

(IsraelNN.com) American Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is faced with a dead-end Roadmap Plan, plagued by lack of progress that might lead Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA) to abandon it, Reuters News Agency correspondent Arshad Mohammed wrote. Secretary Rice is scheduled to arrive in Israel Saturday for talks in Jerusalem and with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in Amman, Jordan. Angry mobs threatened her security during her last visit to PA headquarters in Ramallah.

Mohammed quoted a senior Arab diplomat as saying, "For Annapolis to have any credibility whatsoever, come May we will have to show some positive evidence of progress both on the political as well as the real-life issues ... or people will start losing hope in the process." President Bush has said he wants to visit Israel in May for the 60th anniversary celebrations but first wants to see serious moves made towards a final status agreement for a new Arab state within Israel's current borders.
