Deputy FM: Fatah-Hamas Pact Would End Talks with PA (IsraelNN.com) Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Majadle Whbee said in Greece that the government will suspend negotiations with the Fatah-led PA if the faction reaches a political agreement with the rival Hamas terrorist party. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert previously has threatened to halt the talks if Fatah and Hamas were even to sit down at the same table. Whbee was in Greece to speak with his counterpart Theodoros Kassimis and with minister Petros Doukas on enhancing Greek-Israeli business and trade ties. Speaking with journalists about the situation in Gaza, he said that Israel is insisting that the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority (PA) restore control over the area, where Hamas staged a military takeover last June. Whbee pointed out that Iran is using Hamas in Gaza and Hizbullah in Lebanon to fight a proxy war against Israel, but he added that sanctions and military action are enough to overcome the growing Iranian nuclear threat. ![]() © A7 Syndications - This article may not be republished freely.
