MK Eldad: ‘Super Nanny’ May Violate Children’s Rights

(IsraelNN.com) MK Aryeh Eldad has asked Channel 2 to stop broadcasting its hit show “Super Nanny,” which he says may violate children’s rights.  Eldad has asked the Knesset Committee on the Rights of the Child and the National Council for the Child to investigate the program’s content.

The program aims to assist troubled families by teaching parents how to interact with their children and how to teach their children to behave properly.  The show often shows both parents and children behaving inappropriately, Eldad said, and the children’s names and other personal details become publicly known.  Using children in such a manner and violating their privacy is “extremely unethical and possibly even illegal” even when intentions are good, he charged.

The show’s producers responded to Eldad’s charges by saying that the show “is designed to aid families through solving problems.”  The families who appear on the show benefit from the advice they receive, producers said, as do viewers.
