Brigadier-General Amir Eshel was appointed as head of the IDF’s Planning Branch in a ceremony in Tel Aviv on Thursday. Eshel was also promoted to the rank of Major-General. He is replacing Major-General Ido Nehushtan, who has been appointed as the next commander of the Air Force.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak, IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi, and other top IDF officials attended the ceremony. Barak told the assembled generals that they had accepted a “heavy package” of responsibility upon themselves, and thanked them for their contribution to Israel’s security.
