The Knesset’s Finance Committee has approved a bill that will make it illegal for advertisers to send messages, including SMS texts, emails, or faxes, to recipients who have not agreed to receive them. In addition, advertisers will be required to make it clear that messages sent to potential clients are ads and to include the advertiser’s contact information with the message.
Advertisers who violate the law could be fined NIS 200,000, and citizens who receive unwanted advertisements could be awarded NIS 1,000 per ad. Advertisers will be allowed to send a single advertisement to each recipient without facing charges.
