Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak left on a trip to Russia on Monday. Mubarak is expected to ask Russian officials for help in building a nuclear facility. The two countries recently agreed on a deal involving nuclear technology, and are expected to finalize the agreement during Mubarak’s trip.
Egypt pursued nuclear energy many years ago, but dropped the program in 1986 following the meltdown of a nuclear reactor in Chernobyl. Egyptian officials said Monday that they hope to benefit from Russia’s decades of experience in the field.
