Tamir Announces ‘New Horizon’

(IsraelNN.com) Education Minister Yuli Tamir announced the upcoming implementation of a program known as “New Horizon” at a news conference in Tel Aviv on Monday.  Approximately 760 schools will implement the program next year.  The program’s primary goals include decreasing the number of students per class and increasing the amount of time spent learning in small groups.

Schools participating in the program will receive funding for extra hours of learning in small groups.  Approximately 50 middle schools will receive funding for private tutoring as well.

In addition, 200 elementary schools, 200 middle schools, and 200 high schools will begin reducing the ratio of students to teachers.  The Education Ministry’s goal is to have no more than 32 children in each class by 2020.
