Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake on Monday afternoon in Jerusalem. Wickremanayake noted that his country has been adversely affected by recent terrorist attacks, leading Olmert to warn him, “Do not give in to terrorism because it will only bring destruction to your country. Terrorism must be fought; one must not capitulate to it.”
Olmert discussed Israel’s fears over Iran’s nuclear program, and said the international community must force Iran to allow inspection of its nuclear facilities. Wickremanayake discussed the 2004 tsunami in southeast Asia that killed approximately 40,000 residents of Sri Lanka, and thanked Olmert for Israel’s willingness to provide assistance at the time.
