Proposal: Allow Cancellation of IDF Exemptions

(IsraelNN.com) MK Eitan Cabel (Labor) has proposed a law that would allow the IDF to reconsider exemptions from mandatory army service.  Any person who received an exemption from service due to false statements made regarding their religious observance could have his or her exemption revoked if the law is passed.

Women who tell recruiters they are religious are granted an automatic exemption from service, and men are granted an exemption if they are learning Torah full-time.  Several MKs have expressed concern that the army is granting too many exemptions, forcing a shrinking percentage of Israel’s youth to bear the burden of army service.
