A report commissioned by Meretz party secretary Yaron Shor shows that while Meretz’s membership is shrinking, the party’s debt is growing. The party currently owes approximately NIS 12.4 million to Bank HaPoalim, and is sinking further into debt each month, the report found.
Meretz’s five Members of Knesset have proposed only 15 bills during the current Knesset session, the report found. The MKs have failed to propose laws to protect the environment despite the fact that Meretz promotes itself as a pro-environment faction. Finally, the report found, Meretz has done very little to increase the number of supporters in the Arab community.
The report was released shortly before the Meretz primary elections last week. MK Chaim Oron won the elections with over 54 percent of the vote.
