'Breakthrough' Reported in Hamas, Fatah Negotiations
Hamas and Fatah could be on the road to reconciliation after officials in Yemen said that a “breakthrough” had been achieved by both sides. According to the deal, Hamas and Fatah would hold direct talks for the first time since Hamas booted Fatah out of Gaza last year. The aim of the talks would be to restore the Fatah position in Gaza, and put Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas back in charge of the area.
Abbas, fearing he will be killed, has avoided visiting Gaza since Hamas took over the area.
