The U.S. State Department issued a travel advisory Thursday to American citizens of "Palestinian" extraction who wish to visit Israel. Palestinian Americans, it said, are required are required to show Palestinian Authority travel permits and face extended questioning upon their arrival in Israel.
Ynet reported that Arab-Americans responded with rage to the advisory. They claimed that it expressed the administration's "silent acceptance" of Israel's discrimination of Palestinian-Americans.
"U.S. citizens whom Israel may see as Palestinians are likely to encounter additional questioning by the immigration and borders authorities, which may take time," the State Department said. "If it turns out that the visitors are residents of the West Bank [sic] or Gaza, or former residents of these areas, they may be required to present entry permits into Israel."
