(IsraelNN.com) Hamas attacked German Chancellor Angela Merkel for "denying the Holocaust Israel is perpetrating in Gaza" Tuesday.

The Hamas statement was dispatched from its office in Damascus, Syria. It called Merkel's statements "disgraceful" and said they "contradicted positive stands of other European officials towards the Palestine cause in general."

Hamas accused Merkel of "moral degradation," adding that "Merkel only remembered the Nazi holocaust against the Jews in her country and forgot about Israel's holocaust in Gaza."

Merkel is in Israel on a state visit.
