Officials in the General Security Services (Shabak) reported Saturday that despite media reports, there have been no attempts to carry out attacks on Arabs as revenge for a recent terrorist shooting at the Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva in Jerusalem. Channel 1 reporter Ayallah Hasson insisted last week that a group of Jewish men had planned to avenge the attack with support from “right-wing” rabbis, and members of the High Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel expressed concern on Saturday that “right-wing extremists” would attempt to attack Arab community leaders.
Shabak spokesmen said Saturday that they had thoroughly investigated concerns of a Jewish revenge plot, and had found no evidence of any Jewish groups with plans to attack Arab leaders. Public Security Minister Avi Dichter said last week that the police were unaware of any plans to carry out revenge attacks.
