A police officer was killed late on Thursday night as he set up a speed trap near the Negev town of Mitzpe Ramon.  The officer motioned to one driver to pull over, but instead of obeying, the driver ran into the officer at high speed, causing him serious wounds.  The officer died within minutes.

The driver and a passenger, two Bedouin men in their 20s, were arrested.  The two argued that they had not seen the officer.  Police found stolen copper wires in their vehicle, and are investigating the possibility that the vehicle was stolen as well.
