The Belgian government and banks will pay $54 million to claimants whose property and goods in the country were looted by the Nazis during World War II. Some of the money will also go to create a trust to provide assistance to the poor and a memorial to create a permanent reminder of the Holocaust.
In addition, Holocaust survivors, families of those who did not survive and the Jewish community will receive a total of $170 milliion in restitution payments as well.
