The Knesset approved an initiative on Monday that will cut the time period during which campaign ads are broadcast prior to elections. The ads will now be broadcast for two weeks before an election instead of three.
The initiative will also cut the time given to each party from 10 minutes to seven for television ads and from 25 minutes to 15 for radio ads. Parties will get two minutes of television ad time per Knesset seat instead of three, and four minutes of radio time instead of six.
MK Yitzchak Levy (NU/NRP) explained that he had proposed the law because “the public is sick of seeing the same ads for three weeks.” The new law is the first step in a plan for more sweeping electoral reforms, he said.
