Former Education Minister MK Limor Livnat (Likud) visited the Merkaz HaRav yeshiva in Jerusalem on Monday to pay her respects following the murder of eight of the yeshiva’s students in a terrorist shooting last week. Following her visit Livnat urged the media to remain focused on the terrorist attack at the yeshiva, and not to be distracted by Education Minister Yuli Tamir’s recent visit to the school. “It’s not worth it for the media’s attention to be diverted away from the mournful loss of the terrorist attack,” Livnat explained.
Tamir faced insults from an angry crowd after leaving the yeshiva building, and says she was spat on and kicked as well. The incident received heavy coverage in Israeli media. Following the incident Tamir and other members of Labor expressed concern that anger against the government would lead to an assassination.
