Several MKs led by Rabbi Chaim Amsalem (Shas) have called on Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to prevent terrorist attacks in yeshivot by stationing guards at the entrance to the schools. While the government funds security for public schools ranging from daycares to universities, they pointed out, it does not do the same for the yeshiva school system.
The MKs submitted their request shortly after a terrorist murdered eight yeshiva students in the Merkaz HaRav yeshiva in Jerusalem. Terrorists attacked a yeshiva in Kfar Etzion in February, and prior to that terrorists managed to murder yeshiva students in Atzmona and in the Otniel yeshiva. MKs argued that terrorists know yeshivot do not have proper security, and so select them as targets for attack.
