The Merkaz HaRav yeshiva in Jerusalem has asked Prime Minister Ehud Olmert not to visit. Olmert was planning to visit following a shooting attack in the school in which eight young students were murdered last Thursday. Defense Minister Ehud Barak’s office is waiting for an answer from the yeshiva.
Olmert’s request to visit was denied following a visit from Education Minister Yuli Tamir, who faced angry shouting from Jerusalem residents on Sunday after leaving the yeshiva. Tamir later harshly criticized the angry residents as reminding her of the days before then-Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin was killed.
