Staff Sergeant Liran Banai of Ashkelon, who was mortally wounded by a terrorist bomb near Kisufim, was buried Sunday at the Ashkelon military cemetery. Besides Liran's family, the funeral was attended by dozens from the deaf community; friends of Liran's parents, Guy and Gila, who are both deaf.

The eulogies were all translated into sign language. Liran's father, Guy, recited the Kaddish slowly and then gave the eulogy in sign language, with another person translating it simultaneously into spoken language, according to Ynet.

"Your mother and I did not want you to go into combat, but you asked to," he said. "You wanted it and we respected you. You were very pleased. It was important to you to defend the country… We love you Liran, love you very much. I want to tell you that I salute you for fighting for the homeland, we all salute you."

The mother, Gila, said: "I know G-d will watch over you. You were our anchor, you grew up to be a wonderful boy, and you put your whole heart into everything, with so much patience. You treated us with respect and what we have left is our love for you."
