Jerusalem Forum head Aryeh King said Tuesday that police should investigate an attack on a municipal vehicle on Monday to determine who was behind the incident. A group of Arabs from eastern Jerusalem surrounded the vehicle and attacked it with stones and metal bars in what the victims, two municipal inspectors, described as an attempted lynch.
According to King, the attack may have been part of a coordinated effort to undermine Israeli sovereignty in the capital city. Several organizations, including terror gangs such as Hamas, Fatah, and Islamic Jihad, have been working recently to increase their influence and control in Jerusalem, he said.
King said that the groups attempting to undermine Israeli sovereignty tend to come from outside Jerusalem, from the Ramallah area. Most Arabs in Jerusalem prefer Israeli rule to that of the Palestinian Authority, he said, as Israel provides more employment opportunities, social benefits such as child payments, and religious freedom.
