The Knesset passed a law on Tuesday that changes the rules regarding security guards employed by private companies. Beginning in one month, the government, and not private companies, will be responsible for guards’ training. Guards will receive a weapons license allowing them to carry a handgun from the Interior Ministry, and not from their employers.
In addition, companies employing guards will be required to ensure that they are able to pay damages in case the company or an individual guard causes injury to a third party. Beginning in July, companies will be required to purchase insurance or set aside company money to be paid out in case guards cause injury.
