Sderot Residents who petitioned the High Court to force the government to fortify 800 homes in the southern town have asked the court to give a verdict urgently, due to the escalation in rocket fire on Sderot.
According to Voice of Israel government radio, the petitioners want the verdict to reflect the government's decision from two weeks ago to begin fortification of Sderot.
The urgent request for a verdict was submitted one day after the State Attorney's Office told the court that the government would only be allotting NIS 50 million for the fortification this year, out of a total of 320 million. It also said that Stage One of the fortification would be completed by the summer of 2009 and not the beginning of 2009 as promised earlier.
