(IsraelNN.com) Charges were filed Thursday in a Jerusalem court against a police officer who was charged with using excessive violence in the brutal dispersion of demonstrators at the community of Amona two years ago. The protest, which generally was peaceful and included two Knesset Members who were wounded, was against the government destruction of several Jewish homes.

The indictments charged Moti Mehager on three counts of assault following dozens of complaints filed by demonstrators against the police. A video shows Mehager beating protestors with a club while they staged a peaceful sit-down protest on the floor or a house.

The policeman's lawyer argued that if the police were not supposed to use clubs, they would not have been equipped with them.
