Colorado Hoopsters on Offense To Keep the Sabbath

Colorado state senators have picked up the ball for a Jewish school basketball team that has objected to a playoff game being held on the Sabbath. The Herzl/Rocky Mountain Hebrew Academy is headed for the regional playoffs on the Sabbath if it wins one more game. The Colorado High School Activities Association has rejected the team’s request for a schedule change, prompting state legislators to ask the group to reconsider its position.

Earlier this month, a Michigan judge ruled that students at a Detroit Jewish day school were penalized for their religious beliefs by the scheduling of tournaments on the Sabbath.
