Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz spoke at the “Adif” insurance conference on Monday and called on insurance providers to refuse to provide mandatory insurance to drivers with dozens of traffic violations. Mofaz said that his ministry would provide insurance companies with a list of hundreds of serial traffic offenders.
Mofaz also discussed his ministry’s efforts to collect driver’s licenses from roughly 50,000 drivers whose licenses have been revoked. The collection drive was supposed to end in January, but only 3,500 licenses were collected by January 31, he said. Mofaz said the campaign would continue until a much larger percent of the drivers had returned their licenses. Police would be involved as well, he said.
