Hamas spokesmen said Sunday that the group had arrested two men in connection with the bombing of a YMCA library in Gaza City on February 15. The Hamas-led Palestinian Authority in Gaza confirmed that two men had been arrested, and that police were pursuing several other suspects.
The bombing destroyed the library and increased fears of anti-Christian violence in Gaza, where approximately 3,000 Christians live among roughly 1.4 million Muslims. Hamas sources said Sunday that the bombers were trying to increase interfaith tensions. Hamas’s relationship with the Christian community has historically been good, they said.
