The Chief Rabbinate and the Rabbinic Council of America have reached an agreement regarding conversions, according to the Jerusalem Post. According to the agreement, the Rabbinate will automatically recognize conversions performed by any of 15 RCA rabbinic courts and 40 rabbis. Other conversions will not receive automatic approval, and may be investigated.
Chief Sephardi Rabbi Shlomo Amar announced in 2006 that the Rabbinate would no longer automatically recognize RCA conversions. He expressed concern that RCA conversions were not performed according to a unified set of standards, and said that RCA rabbis should pass Rabbinate tests before asking the Rabbinate to grant their conversions automatic acceptance.
