Israel allowed a shipment of cement to enter Gaza via the western Negev on Monday. The shipment was the first of its kind in some time, as only essential food and medical supplies have been allowed to enter Gaza via Israeli crossings in recent months due to ongoing rocket attacks.
The cement will be used for a World Bank project to construct a sewage treatment plant in northern Gaza. The new plant will replace a plant that broke down last year, killing five people in a flood of sewage when pools collapsed.
