Canada has extradited 83-year-old Michael Seifert to Italy following his conviction in absentia for war crimes committed in a prison camp in Bolzano during the Second World War. Seifert has been imprisoned near Naples, and will be serving a life sentence for nine counts of murder.
Seifert, who was born in the Ukraine, was accused of torturing and killing inmates in the prison camp. Witnesses said Seifert laughed while tormenting his victims. Seifert admits that he served as an SS guard in the camp, but denies charges that he committed war crimes.
