Govt. Source: We Assume Soldiers Are Alive
(IsraelNN.com) A senior government source said Saturday night that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert assumes that kidnapped IDF soldiers Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser are alive. His statement contradicted a report in the German weekly Der Spiegel which stated that Olmert planned to declare the two soldiers dead in absence of any proof of life.
As long as there is no proof of the soldiers’ condition, the source said, “Israel will continue to engage in negotiations based on the assumption they are alive.” The two soldiers were kidnapped by Hizbullah in July 2006 in an attack that began the Second Lebanon War.
