A price war has broke out in some Jerusalem supermarkets, and one large chain operator warned that competitor Rami Levi will end up going bankrupt. Some products are being sold at a loss, and chicken at one store was going for 99 agorot a kilogram (12 cents a pound) with purchases of more than 200 shekels. Store in the Talpiot neighborhood are at the center of the price war.
One Super-Sol executive told Globes, "We have enough stores to absorb this, so our future looks rosier than ever before at Super-Sol. Rami Levi is the next Clubmarket," referring to the large chain that went bankrupt last year. Levi replied, "The company has a policy of low prices in every sector in which it operates. The company believes that its price policy does not substantially affect its profits." He charged his competitors with acting like a "mafia."
