Sderot residents, who blocked the entrance to Jerusalem Sunday to protest the government's failure to protect them from Arab rocket attacks, said they plan to take their demonstration to Ayalon Highway in Tel Aviv. The protest is to involve a "drive-slow" motorcade aimed at tying up traffic on the high-speed urban thoroughfare.
Politicians have responded to recent rocket attacks with frequent visits to Sderot, where they have repeated promises that efforts will be made to solve the problem of the rocket strikes. The attacks began more than seven years ago and escalated after the government destroyed Jewish communities in the Gaza region and withdrew its forces.
Shaul Mofaz, when he was Defense Minister in the Sharon government at the time, vowed that Israel would retaliate immediately and with force if terrorists fired "even one rocket" on the Negev.
