Northern cities along the “confrontation line” near Lebanon will strike on Wednesday in response to government plans to cut their tax benefits.  The cities were granted benefits to encourage Israelis to reside there despite rocket attacks.

Finance Ministry officials recently announced that the tax benefits in cities such as Kiryat Shmona, Maalot, and Nahariya would be cut by approximately 50 percent.  Several cities that were not considered to be within rocket range of Lebanon prior to the Second Lebanon War will be granted tax benefits for the first time.

City officials announced the strike following a “disappointing” meeting with Tax Authority officials on Sunday.  As part of the strike, all schools will be closed, businesses will close for the day, and city workers will not collect garbage.
