Palestinian Authority Chairman and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) offered Thursday to help Gaza residents avoid more attacks by Israeli war planes and ground forces by arranging a ceasefire between Hamas and the Jewish State.

In a statement by spokesman Nabil Abu Redeina, Abbas also renewed his offer to take control over the Gaza crossings, according to the AFP news agency.
