The Bush administration's proposed 2009 budget includes a new 10-year $30 billion defense aid package for Israel, beginning with $2.5 billion next year. Israel will receive only military aid for the first time in 2009, following years of American assistance for non-military needs.
The amount of military aid for the next decade is $6 billion more than stated in the previous plan, passed in 1998. The increase is intended to compensate for the proposed $20 billion arms package for Saudi Arabia.
