Man’s Condition Improves During Life Support Battle

An 84-year-old religious Jewish man living in Canada is awake and responsive two months after doctors tried to disconnect him from life support, members of his family recently reported.  Doctors said that Sam Golubchuck had limited brain function and no hope of recovery.  His family managed to get an emergency injunction keeping him on life support.  Removing him from life support would violate his and his family’s wishes and religious beliefs, they argued.

Golubchuck’s family is currently involved in a legal battle with the hospital, with both sides claiming the right to make the final decision involving life support.  In the meantime, Golubchuck’s condition continues to improve, his daughter said, and he is being slowly removed from the life support machines.
