Likud Knesset Member Dr. Yuval Shteinitz charged Wednesday that the Olmert administration and the IDF "did not act according to warnings of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee" two and a half years before the Second Lebanon War. Speaking to the Hebrew news site Walla, MK Shteinitz explained that the committee, which he headed, warned that Israel had no sufficient answer to the growing Iranian-Hizbullah threat.
"The fact that the government did not understand during the war what was happening shows the situation to be graver," he added. The Likud MK added that Israel succeeded in overcoming 30,000 terrorists under the direction of Yasser Arafat in the first war in Lebanon and that there was no reason to fail in the second war a year and a half ago.
He also charged that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's declarations that the government has learned its lessons from the war are baseless and that it has not taken any substantial action since the interim report of the Winograd Committee last year.
