Welfare Minister Yitzchak Herzog has requested the public’s help in locating those living outdoors. His announcement was made on Tuesday night, after several homeless Israelis died of cold over the past week.
Herzog said that approximately 2,400 homeless Israelis are receiving help through Welfare Ministry programs, and he estimates that 1,000 more are living on the streets and are unknown to social workers. Those who know there are homeless people staying in their neighborhoods are asked to call *106 or *118.
