Govt. Promises School Prayer Solution

Education Ministry officials have promised to find a solution for students in secular high schools who wish to pray during school hours.  The lack of guidelines regarding school prayer became an issue late last year when students in the Ohel Shem high school in Ramat Gan were forbidden to hold group prayers on school grounds.

Students of all religion will be allowed to pray during the day, officials said.  School administrators will choose a location for the prayers.  The location must be either within the school building or within a 10-minute walk from the school building, they said, and students will have recess during the time required to walk to the location and pray.
