(IsraelNN.com) The United Nations and Israel have jointly launched a stamp in observance of International Holocaust Memorial Day, which was observed Sunday, on the anniversary of the Auschwitz death camp. The stamp include a logo of the U.N. Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Program and features a pair of barbed wires that run horizontally across the page and finally transform into a vine from which a pair of flowers blossoms. It is the first time the U.N. has issued a stamp simultaneously with a national stamp.

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon declared that the stamp "demonstrates the commitment of the U. N. to pay tribute to all the victims of the Holocaust, honor the survivors, and reaffirms its efforts to help prevent future acts of genocide."

Communications Ministers Ariel Atias (Shas) said the joint issuance of the stamps "represents an important step in worldwide efforts to ensure that the Holocaust will not be forgotten."
