IDF To Take Brunt of Winograd Criticism

The Winograd Committee report on the conduct of the Second Lebanon War, to be released Wednesday evening, will focus on the failures of the IDF, according to sources quoted by Israeli media. The criticism will include the failure to stop Katyusha rocket attacks, the lack of preparation for war by the Home Front Command and the lack of training of reservists.

The IDF is concerned that the report may damage the army's image although it has taken steps to repair mistakes that were made. However, an interim Winograd report last year noted several government failures that still have not been corrected. The Winograd panel recommended strengthening the National Security Council, but it still remains weak because of IDF opposition.
