Two homeless men died of hypothermia on Monday, one in Bat Yam and another in Tel Aviv. At least one of the men had been drinking alcohol, which increases heat loss and numbs the senses, increasing the danger of hypothermia.
The “Korat Gag” non-profit group criticized the city of Tel Aviv, saying the city had refused to provide them with land to build a temporary heated tent for the homeless. City officials argued that there was no suitable land and that the proposed tent would not be safe. Officials said there was room available in existing shelters.
