(IsraelNN.com) Former Indonesian dictator Suharto died Sunday in Jakarta at the age of 86. Suharto was ousted in 1998 after 32 years in office, when 500 student protestors were killed during a demonstration in the parliament building that convinced lawmakers to force him to resign.

At least half a million people died when he seized power in a military coup that launched a leadership in which he embezzled millions of dollars and maintained a stranglehold on one of the most populous nations in southeast Asia.

Indonesia has consistently supported the Palestinian Authority in its demands that Israel withdraw to the pre-1967 borders and hand over Judea, Samaria, Gaza and half of Jerusalem.
